Lecture at Tsinghua University on American Indians and Comparative Paradigms Indigenous and Marxism with Professor Long Denggao

Introductory Note

It is ironic that in my over 35 years of teaching economics, geography and some other subjects, in the U.S.,Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, India and China, at all levels from high school to post-doctoral, I found the most freedom of thought and inquiry in China. I lectured sometimes for hours with no notes, and no one, even I, knew what I would say in advance, or how I would respond to questions, or what subjects would come up, but I was able to explore topics and perspectives that no professor at Harvard, or Yale or the Ivy Leage Clone factories that we sometimes venerate, for no reason except perhaps tradition and historical revisionism, which in reality is the “mainstream”, not the “fringe”, would dare touch.

Want an example? Here is one of the venerated professors of Columbia University who, along with T. R. drew his racial theories, and views of the world from exactly the same sources as the Nazis and the Thule Society and the American Eugenics Congress that inspired the Nazi “race hygiene laws”. There are statues of him all over the place.

Academic economists, Tsinghua University Lecture

Western economic theory and economic crisis: the rise of political economy

Speaker: (U.S.) James M. Craven (Chinese name: Ke Ruiwen)

Speaker Profile: American Indian; tenured professor of economics and geography and political economy of the world; World Association for Political Economy Society member; academic journal Review of International Critical Thought Editorial Board member; has been invited to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Yunnan University for academic lectures; worked outside the U.S. in the past 20 years in 6 languages at many universities for undergraduate, graduate students at all levels of political economy, international law and other disciplines.

Report Summary: With Western “mainstream ” economic theory, in terms of changes and challenges occurring, there is nothing really that new. With the Western economies undergoing structural changes and economic crises, challenges to mainstream economic theory are the inevitable outcome. Because of the failures to predict and interpret the current economic crisis, mainstream neoclassical economics is under siege and criticism in the Western world, resulting in the revival of political economy in teaching, research and applications.

Originating in the Western world, the current global economic crisis is of unprecedented scale and some of its new features, make the current crisis more comprehensive and a thorough critique of neo-classical economics and launching of the revival of political economy, more necessary and urgent than ever.

This presentation will explore the reasons for which mainstream economics could not and can not predict the current economic crisis and will explain important aspects of the vision of political economy and why the failure of mainstream economics is serious and more evident than ever.
